5 min warm up. Not steady and lacked focus. I did start to get the draws much smoother.
Mixed it up straight draws and surrender
Transitions 6 RL 6 really seeing shots and transitions.
Work out was cut short but felt it good.
Need to run fast, mag change fast, turn fast SHOOT SLOW!
I really need to make sure to take what strength’s I have and gain time. The things I am slow on go at it slow. Take what the day or match gives me.

Match Results!!
I came in second place of twelve in the match ! I am very pleased with the results. I did miss a golden opportunity to win a match. Two mikes I had where the difference. I will post the results here. Sorry if they are long it is the only way to capture and preserve the reults. I did also have a stage win in the mix as well. This is only the second time I have achieved this feat. I am feeling closer to where I left off at the begining of the summer.

Am work out
I started at 7 am and worked out until 7-30. Not to pressure intensive just got the blood flowing and some muscle memory. I started with basic draws and acquirethe dot. I then went on to some 6 RL 6 for quite awhile and finished up with quite a few "el prez's". Not too extravagant just need to stick with it.
I also did 30 reps with the dumbells. 3 sets of ten for each arm. I feel I could use a little more arm strength. If I keep it simple on my arm work outs but stick with it as well I should gain plenty.
that was it...

July HRPC match...
On Sunday we had our monthly USPSA match. I shot very well compared to just 7 days earlier. I only had one stage that I had an issue with two mikes. I actually think I may have won a stage and believe I placed very well overall. Now keep in mind that a few of Maine's top shooters did not show and there was only 12 shooters. That being said I obviously performed much better than the Augusta match.
I will post the results here when I am able to get the info setup.
One of the main reasons I performed much better was that I slowed way down. I forced myself to see the shots. This helped immensely and I actually shot very fast on a couple stages due to this. I also again realized my zero is STILL off! The longer shots were very hard and luckily most of the stages had only steel at long range. My gear gave me no problems. Dot was bright, ammo worked great.
Overall a great day shooting!

Stripped of my par times....
I spent 5 minutes working on draws as a warm up. No timer just draws. Focused on getting hands together and then acquire picture. Also holstering replicating the draws.
15 minutes on 6 reload 6 trying to keep it simple. No timer
10 minutes of table draws 6 reload 6 with timer no par.
Last 5 minutes spent on 6 RL 6 with timer. I was really focusing on grip and seeing the a shots. Still no pars.
Overall it felt pretty good. I zero'd my gun better last night and it didn't affect my sight picture.
HRPC match tomorrow need to make sure to fit in a pm workout.
Also I bought a 10lb dumbell. I want to use it in my spare time when I am hanging out to build a little more arm strength.

Need to do two a days m-w this week.. DO IT!
Warm up
10min or so. Reorganized gear a little..
Sa7 par .7 10 reps each .7-.5
Sa8 par 5.5 down to 5.3 and pushed it hard on all
Sa10 par 5.5 did some beginning and ending no par time. (5.5-5.3)
Sa11 par 5.8 just started doing partial trigger resets..not full 5.8 down to 5.6 trigger messing me all up
sa12 5.8 down to 5.6
Enter box shooting drill 25 rep or so
60 sec box drill, 1st string worked hard on trigger reset and smooth legs
2nd string slower more deliberate a’s still worked on trigger reset.
Added in sa15 to work on trigger…did about 15 reps
7-5-2009
Live fire 300 rounds
Goal: transitions/draws
Jay had me working on basics again so I figured this would be basic. I had stopped working as much on draws and Jay mentioned to Ledge about .2 is a huge thing. So live fire… 1.5 seems to be par. Not good for an open shooter (at least 1.0 max) I can hit 1.3 or so sometimes but have to push it and miss. I did this for about 200 rounds. Then worked on transitions two targets two shots reload two shots. I really really focused on trigger reset. This needs to be the main focus in live fire because this cannot be felt in dryfire. All in all very good session but need a lot more live fire…

I did 5 min warm up. Reloads, surrender and hands at sides draws.
Sa 7 Par is .7. I started at .7 on timer and worked down to .5 performing 10 reps each. I pushed .5 very hard and it felt very good.
Sa 8 Par is 5.5. I started at 5.5 and worked down to 5.2 doing 5 reps each. Even 5.2 was good. Really focused on transitions and trigger simulated reset only.
Sa 10 “El Prez” my par is 5.5. I did some warm ups and started at 5.5. I felt sloppy down to 5.3 which I had to really focus on.
Sa 11 “Strong Hand” my par is 5.8. I started at 5.8 and worked down to 5.5 performing 5 reps each. Last string was tough and got the arms burning.
Sa 12 “Weak Hand” par is 6.0. I started at 6.0 and worked down to 5.7 doing 5 reps a string. It was very messy. I am starting to feel arm fatigue.
60 sec box drill. First rep I did with the focus on trigger reset and 70-30 grip. Second rep I did the opposite direction around box with the same focus.
Last drill I finished with is shooting entering the box. I did 50 reps. This felt good. I paid attention to shooting off foot feel ( make any sense?).
Target array- I use three mini-uspsa targets setup evenly spaced at 15ft. I added in a no shoot to the middle target covering the left side up to the a box.
I start with a 5-10 minute warm up. I always try to focus on mechanics. I perform surrender draws, standard draws, reloads, and up-range draws. I don’t use the timer or pay attention to time. I really focus on good form, seeing the dot, and feel some blood flow to arms.

Bear with me....
I will do my best to keep this real. Some things may not be written grammatically correct and a mess. Some days a post may be a sentence. Some you may see are much longer and run on. This is simply a neat way for me to reflect back on my learning curve. Hopefully it is a sharp incline.
One early post you will notice is very long and uninformative. It is the real uncut training starting at the beginning of Jul 09'. I never intended to publish it in this fashion and may some day I will clean it up. For the sake of trying to utilize the blog I am throwing it up there to "move on".

Training Drills
I use the Steve Anderson "Refinement and Repetition" book for the majority of my dryfire and some live fire drills. He has made it as simple as reading and dryfiring some basic classifier type drills to improve your abilities.
This is a list of what they are and most will be familiar as USPSA classifiers.

SA 2 "10 yard index"
SA 3 "10 yard surrender index"
SA 4 "Turn and Draw"

SA 15 " 2 reload 2"
SA 16 "Bill reload drill"
SA 17 "Head shot picture"
SA 18 "Table Draws"
HS 1 "60 sec box drill" movement around 3 ft box with trigger and sight picture while moving.
HS 2 " 3 step into box"
Descriptions of the drills to come in the future.

Matt Burkett
First real post..
So I am starting this blog with a highlight. I recently started on this Web/ Facebook Journey. I am spreading out socially a little step by step (I am not sure why?). I friended Matt Burkett (one of the top shooters in the world) through facebook and he confirmed me. He then proceeded to start some dialogue. He mentioned his desire to visit Maine and teach a class. He then said if I have the time give him a call.
Now most people wouldn't hesitate and I wasn't going to miss the opportunity. This is the same guy I have studied and watched video's for 9 months now. He was excellent to talk to. We laughed about a store he was at, Iron man stuff , what powder we each use. We had conversation about people we both know. He is just a good guy who happens to be a top world shooter.
He makes me realize that anyone can be the best if it is what you REALLY want and put in the effort. Matt, Kudos to you for being REAL! You made a great impression on me and look forward to shooting with you some day....
